Selebe Yoon

In Wolof, “Selebe Yoon” means “the crossroad,” the place where different paths intersect. Situated in Dakar center in Senegal, this venue wishes to be a point of convergence between various geographies and cultural contexts in order to offer the possibilities of collaboration and new ties amongst artists from every continent.

So proud to have worked for the incredible entrepreneur and gallery owner of The Chimney New York, Jennifer Houdrouge on her new incredible art space in Dakar, Senegal.

The logo created is Inspired by the name Selebe Yoon meaning crossroad in Wolof and the architectural elements present on the façade of the building. The typography is also inspired by the motif by placing emphasis on lines rather than curves. The logo also plays on the notion of negative space, so prevalent in the very essence of art itself.

In traditional Chinese and Japanese art, the use of empty space is given the name yohaku; large areas were left blank and unpainted, and these blank spaces were considered to be a vital part of the composition, just as important as the painted spaces.

Selebe Yoon is owned and managed by Jennifer Houdrouge, also the owner of The Chimney in New York.
